The Buda Central District Court of Justice began work on January 1, 1982 as a county court of justice. It was located at 1 Fő Street, in the former building of the Supreme Court. It was responsible for districts 1, 2, 3, 11, 12 and 22.
From January 1, 1990 with the secession of district 2 and district 3 a new court of justice started its operation while Buda Central District Court of Justice lost its former legal status and started functioning as a local court of justice, covering districts 1, 11, 12 and 22.
From January 8, 1996 Buda Central District Court of Justice continued its judicial activity in district 2, at 51/b Budakeszi Street. Originally, this building was designed for other purposes, but it was easily renovated to meet the demands of the court of justice. In this pleasant and modern building all the judges have their own workrooms. The court-rooms are all directly accessible so the secure guarding of prisoners is also ensured.
Four divisions work in the building: a criminal divison, a property law division, a family law division as well as an extra-judicial procedure division and also an executive division. The fifth one, the so called BK (what does BK stand for and mean?) division operates in the Fő street building of the Military Court. Minor offences and private prosecution cases are also judged here.
