| The Metropolitan Court as Companies Registry belongs to the Economic Department but it is located in a separate building. It moved into its present place in 1991. The building was erected according to József Hild´s plans in 1843 in classicist style as a dwelling house with an inside yard and open corridors. In 1922 according to Andor Wellish´s plans, two more floors were added to the building. It gained its present appearance in 1991. The building is part of the World Heritage. Customer service is located in two comvenient offices, which are supplemented by a pleasant waiting-hall that was formed by putting roof on the former court-yard. The extension of Companies Registry grew parallel with the development of economic law. In the 1980´s 4-5 registry judges, later more and more judges got involved in tasks in connection with company registry and the legal supervision of companies. Presently 55 judges, 2 lawyers and 132 non-legal employees work on tasks that cover 43% of the country`s economic organisations. The main requirement in registration of companies is the authenticity of the register of companies. In order to fulfill this requirement, procedural law introduced for the first time in the judiciary system - the so called arrangement deadline, which means that in cases of non-legal entity companies, the court has to judge on the merits about the request within 30 days while in cases of legal entity companies the deadline is 60 days. For lack of judgement on the basis of data in the request, a so called automatic registration takes place. Besides the judgement of applications for company registry and for registering changes on the basis of procedure law, the legal supervisory function of the Companies Registry gets more important and so do its pertinent measures, eg. cancelling illegitimate companies from the company register. |
